Aristos

One of the most quintessentially late Sixties pieces I have seen, this is by the Carnaby Street boutique Aristos. Started by Aristos Constantinou in 1966 with a mere twelve dresses in stock. The brightly painted psychedelic exterior and the extravagant clothes were quintessentially late Sixties, and the business quickly flourished. His training had been in couture, at the London house of Mattli, and the clothes demonstrate this eye for quality.

This piece features a bodice and cuffs in a luxuriously embroidered black velvet, then a sweeping maxi skirt and billowing leg of mutton sleeves in a weighty black satin. It is a superb example of the work of Aristos in this period, and also a superb example of late Sixties period-styling.
